The movie was filmed on location in the Antelope Valley area, near Palmdale California. All of the road action scenes were filmed along a few stretches of road located near Wilsona Gardens. In fact the gas station shown in the film was owned by Jesse and Peal Runyon and served as "base" for much of the location shooting. The building still stands today and it is now used as a residential home. Click on this link to view the building as is looks today.

The Arena, is rumored to have been located in this area as well, but I have not been able to track it down. All of the other locations were shot on the MGM lot. Check out the post office scene, how many post offices have a curtain inside the front door? Sam Katzman was famous for bringing in his productions under budget, and Hot Rods to Hell was no exception. He used many MGM back-lot buildings and sets without having to build special backgrounds. If you have a sharp eye, you will notice many compromises in editing, background changes, prop movements throughout the film.

Hot Rods to Hell was filmed and produced in less than two weeks!
