Featured Cars of Hot Rods to Hell
Featured classic cars in Hot Rods to Hell include Duke's 1958 Vette, Tom Phillips' first car is a 1966 Dodge Station Wagon that is hit by a drunk driver in a '66 Imperial. Tom's replacement car is a '61 Plymouth Belvedere 4 door sedan (what a downgrade!). Tom's brother Bill drives an understated '66 Plymouth. The policeman who apparently works a 24 hour shift, patrols the California desert in a '66 Dodge. The owner of the Arena, Lank Daily, drives a '66 Dodge convertible The drunk at the picnic grounds drives a speedy 1959 Oldsmoblie 4 door hardtop. Look carefully around the picnic groundsand you will see a white 1956 T-bird, '66 Chrylser Station Wagon and a red '57 Plymouth. Duke's buddy Joe drives a '56 Chevy Bel-Air hardtop. Don't forget the classic T-roadsters that join in on the fun and terrorize the Phillips family as well.

In the small town of Mayville check out these vehicles, 1966 Plymouth, '51 Plymouth convertible. late '50s VW, and a '66 Plymouth Barracuda.

In the streets of Hainesberg look for these classic automobiles; a 1956 Buick, '56 Dodge, '57 Ford, '64 Chevy, '62 Chevy, '62 Corvair, '60 Rambler, '58 Plymouth convertible, '64 Oldsmobile, '55 Cadillac, '51 Chrysler, '64 Buick, '58 Chevy, '64 T-Bird, '50 Chevy pick-up (this is the one Tom almost hits while running from Duke and the gang), '64 Falcon, '65 Chevy Impala, '64 Plymouth, '61 Cadillac, '56 T-Bird and a '65 Mustang.

Cars galore at the Arena! They include a Jeep CJ, five 1966 Mustangs, '66 Plymouth Valiant, '63 Chevy convertible, '60s VW, '66 Chevy, 65 Ford truck, 51 Plymouth convertible, two MGs, a Porsche, '55 Chevy Nomad, and a '66 Dodge Station Wagon. Unidentifiable vehicles consist of a motorcycle, a red sports car, two '30's hot rods, and during the fight between Duke and Daily in the back of the Arena there is a car from the mid to late '30s. Can anyone help me identify these cars?

Last but not least, here are the cars at the drunk man's late night wreck. His 1959 Oldsmobile, '66 Dodge police car, and a '60 Cadillac Ambulance!

Riding High!
Notice how Duke's 1958 Vette and Joe's '56 Chevy both have high front ends? What is the reason? Well it was to get a better grip from the tires to the road when dragging - real TUFF too! With the high front end and somewhat weak tires of that era it was found that more weight would go to the rear tires for better grip and that my hot rodding friends would equal to a faster time off the line when drag racing. This "nose in the sky" look was most popular from 1956-66 and considered cool looking - like a speed boat, or a jet sitting on the runway. The noise in the weeds style took over in '67 as the big boys in drag racing started getting lighter cars with better griping tires. Remember, Hot Rods To Hell was filmed in 1966. And if you look at the low budget drag cars of '66 or the high budget ones of 1965 in the Drag magazines of that time, you see a lot of those high front ends of the full bodied '50s-'60s hot rods. And they look mean and TUFF! How many cars do you know of that can make that awesome tire-screaming-burning-rubber sound in dirt and gravel?
